Meet Jordan Ta’amu – the Christian quarterback who refused to let NFL disappointment define him

Jordan Ta’amu’s career as a quarterback is a lesson for us all in resilience.

After going undrafted in 2019, the Hawaii native went on to sign for five different NFL teams, but only ever made the practice squad, failing to take a single snap.

For most athletes, the accumulation of setbacks might’ve proved too much… but not for Ta’amu.

In 2022, the 25-year-old decided to enter the USFL draft, where he was selected with the second overall pick and went on to lead the league in passing yards and touchdowns.

It was from there, that Ta’amu was presented with the opportunity to play for the DC Defenders in the XFL, where he’s continued to flourish.

So where does his resilience come from?

Jordan Ta’amu’s Christian faith

In a 2019 interview with USA Today, Ta’amu spoke about his Christian upbringing:

“I was raised in a church home, to just have some faith and always believe in God and just know your hard work will pay off.”

His faith in God is something that’s carried on as his career developed. Just by taking a glance at his social media, you can see where he finds his strength.

In his bio, Ta’amu refers to the bible verse Philippians 4:13, which reads:

‘I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.’

These words from the apostle Paul are a call for believers to be content no matter what their circumstances are.

Regardless of setbacks, disappointment, and struggles, Christians are called to find their hope in Christ, not the things of this world.

A truth that has likely been pivotal for Ta’amu throughout his rollercoaster career.

In 2018, the QB talked about his confidence coming from his faith in Christ:

‘I am confident beyond reason because my confidence lies in Christ!’

The quarterback also often speaks about trusting God’s plan for his life, even when trials are sometimes hard to understand:

Ta’amu isn’t afraid to show his thankfulness to God during games either.

The XFL star is often seen pointing to the sky to give God the glory:
