Christian McCaffrey’s faith from celebration meaning to relationship with soon-to-be wife that’s “rooted in God”

Christian McCaffrey has become one of the NFL’s most prominent superstars.

A 3x First-Team ALL-Pro and the NFL record holder for most consecutive games with a touchdown (17), the 49ers star is a household name.

While many know the RB for his mind-blowing athleticism, explosive power, and cat-like agility, it’s his Christian faith that has played the biggest role in his career so far.

Christian McCaffrey on surrendering to God

In an interview with Church Leaders, McCaffrey said:

“My faith is very important to me, and that’s why I’m praying all the time.

“When you have a bunch of people chanting your name, it’s important that you give the honor and glory back to the person, God, that’s allowing me to do this.”

The pressures that come with being the face of an NFL franchise are undoubtedly huge.

In an interview with QC News, the 27-year-old explained how his faith brings peace when facing trials:

“When you have a ‘why,’ you can endure everything.

“I think when your faith is strong, when you understand what’s going on in your life … you just turn to God and surrender” he said.

“For me, that was the biggest weight off my back was that word — just keep telling myself, ‘Surrender.’ You’re not in control as much as you think you are, and that’s a gift.”

Christian McCaffrey’s touchdown celebration meaning

McCaffrey has one of the most iconic touchdown celebrations in the NFL.

After every score, the superstar RB beats his chest five times and points to the sky.

In a 2017 Q&A with the Carolina Panthers, he revealed why:

“I beat my chest five times and I point up to God. That’s what I stand on.

“That’s kind of what I started doing my sophomore season. All praise goes to Him.

“That’s just the kind of person I am. I’m a religious person. Every touchdown I score and before and after every single game, I just give it up to Him.”

Christian McCaffrey’s believing teammates

Being a Christian isn’t a solo journey and that’s no different in the NFL.

McCaffrey has been fortunate enough to play in teams alongside other believing stars.

None more so than 49ers QB Brock Purdy, who in an interview with Sports Spectrum talked about the importance of having solid believers alongside you as a Christian.

Purdy said: “I didn’t know what to expect going into a professional locker room, who’s a believer, who’s not or any of that stuff.

“I was very fortunate and blessed to have guys like Charlie Woerner, Christian McCaffrey, pastor Earl Smith, Oren Burks, these guys who are solid believers.

Purdy continued: “We’d meet before road games and just have our little Bible studies.

“But the biggest thing for me was, man, having fellowship.

“You’re in a crazy business, you’re on the road, you’re going to different places.

“But to have guys that believe in the Lord and can help you and pour into you with their experiences and everything, I found that huge.”

It’s a relationship that’s “rooted in God”, as revealed by McCaffrey’s fiance in an interview with Fox News:

She said: “The foundation of our relationship has always been God.

“I feel like when things are hard or when you’re both overwhelmed [and] there’s not a ton that you can give to each other, you can always rely on God.

“So I feel like if the foundation is there, if there’s a foundation of that in any relationship, it is incredibly helpful.

“Sometimes you just need help with any relationship… That’s not only like with friendships. It’s with everything. I think it’s important to be faith-based, truly.”
