49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks posted apt message about his faith just two weeks before being fired

San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks has been fired just three days after falling short in the Super Bowl.

ESPN Insider Adam Schefter broke the news that after just a year in his role, Wilks’ time at the 49ers had come to an end.

Steve Wilks’ Christian faith

Wilks is a Christian and has publicly spoken about his faith in the past.

None more so, than when he was named interim head coach of the Carolina Panthers in November 2022.

In an interview with FOX, Wilks revealed every decision he makes is driven by his faith in God.

Wilks explained: “Everything I do is based on my belief in God, and I truly believe He’s ordered my steps.

“Nothing I do, as far as making decisions, [is done without] really trying to pray about it and making sure He leads me in the right direction.

“I know this is my calling. I know the direction and the path I’ve taken within this career. He’s definitely ordered my steps, and I’m back home.”

Steve Wilks’ faith post before being fired

Wilks often takes to his X account to share his faith with his followers.

Just two weeks before the Super Bowl, the ex-49ers DC posted a very apt message about standing firm in faith even when faced with rejection.

The message said: “As I look back on my life, I realize that every time I thought I was being rejected from something good, I was actually being re-directed to something better.”

The tweet was accompanied by the caption: #Psalm100:5.

This is a clear indication that Wilks is trusting in God to direct his life, even when going through rejection, like his latest setback with the 49ers.

Psalm 100:5 says: “For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.”
